True Helmet Stories by Jane

I'm 44 and started riding lessons 2 years ago. I was practicing my cantor in the field by our home when my horse spooked and took off at a full gallop! Ruby ran under a tree with a huge limb at my waist level. There was no time to do anything but try to grab the limb and hop off. She was going so fast, that when I hit the branch, it knocked the wind out of me! I fell from the branch and landed flat on my back. My helmet cracked up the back, but my head did not! The girl I was riding with initially thought I was dead, because the fall still knocked me unconcious!!! I still ended up with a wicked headache, but at least I was alive and walked away from the accident! When I look at my helmet and see that crack, all I can think is that could have been my skull!!! Thank goodness I was wearing my helmet.
